Puh, not that great. Which is little bit of a surprise regarding the relatively good cast. Didn't care for the script, which seems like a remnant from the early 2000s when everybody tried to replicate the quippy banter of Tarantino and Co. Here the dialogue never really finds its pace and rhythm, it feels stilted and so moored in the pseudo-cool of the tpyical black crime comedy that it is obvious that it's just a couple of lame tropes theown together and then drowned in wierd chocolate syrup of mediocrity.

Leaves you with a stale taste and a deep dislike for humankind. The producer of the show in which the contestant was show without his consent is one of the most unpleasant people ever, while the seemingly uplifting end is hurried through without any real resolution as some of the big questions tue audience osmleft with aren't addressed at all (Why no legal battle afterwards? What was he doing after the show? How did he try to cope with the trauma?).

    Rather unsatisfying.

Uiuiui, what went wrong here? And why does it affect Netflix movies so often? I just finished this because I turned to hate-watch mode after 45 minutes.

A movie with an interesting and original idea that lends itself to nice world-building but presents itself as a disjointed mess. The rhythm in the start is weirdly off and never gets any better. That the movie has to rattle off 15 minutes of exposition told in flashbacks and montages before the story…

I liked everything by director and writer Anders Thomas Jensen like IN CHINA THEY EAT DOGS, FLICKERING LIGHTS, OLD MEN IN NEW CARS and ADAMS APPLES back when he was prolific end of the Nineties. Watching them again, years later, they are still funny but a little bit callous.

Maybe I just got older. But Jensen latest combines the black humor of his best comedies with precise action and surprising emotional heft. Together with a great cast of characters, a nearly perfect dramedy - not least because of a script that is paced with impressive precision.
