Pan's Labyrinth 2006
Same feeling I had when I saw it back in the cinema: the violence of the war story is so intense and gripping, that I fail to see the fairytale scenes as more than pretty symbolic breaks. Still, there are strong memorable moments, great shots and actors, and the ending works very well.

This movie illustrates a common problem in dramaturgy: what to do with mystery?
A little mystery is great, it's intriguing, it makes you want to see more. When everything is mysterious, you just don't understand the story and you don't empathize with the character. Maybe that mystery you're keeping is indeed the real interesting story you should tell?
