I want to give this 4 but at times it felt like just a really well made grad student film. Something about some of the acting (not including Thatcher) and “oh shit!” writing, and a lot of the night exterior cinematography. It was definitely fun, definitely funny and definitely interesting but it just felt pretty “slight” overall. Had higher hopes after hearing some of the initial hype before it was even out. Good but not great.

Was so ready for a new classic to be born. Massively disappointed. Eggers shows while he can absolutely nail small contained stories, he stumbles at nearly every turn with bigger, larger scale ones. The Northman had many of the same problems. The Trap 2023
Fantastic natural performances, and some heartfelt moments, but things segue what seemed to me very incoherently at times and it just kind of plods along. The shaky cam intimacy feels overused as well. This plus some fairly cloying or on the nose scenes, just really missed the mark for me. But I love Ms. Headey and think she’s a breath of fresh air. There just needs to be a way tighter approach I think.
