  A biracial high school football team that is brought together by the magical sounds of The Temptations destroy racism once and for all in a small Virginia town in 1971. 

  The script is highly questionable, but it does exactly what a sturdy melodrama needs to do. I really liked this when I saw it theatrically at 10 years old, and I still like it now! 

  An elite Denzel performance, young Ryan Gosling, and a soundtrack any Dad would be stoked to put on the record player also highlight.

  By the final 15 minutes, I was just about in full-on “fuck this movie” mode. 

  If you’re going to base a film on the premise of “evil Superman”, have some fun with it. If this had a different tone and kept the same horror imagery (the red lights in the barn? Good stuff) and gore, it would have benefited greatly. Instead, it’s played about as straight as possible which makes it come off as dour, mean spirited, and self important. I…
