22 years after the events of the original Norman Bates is released from the asylum deemed rehabilitated. Is he really better ? Of course he bloody isn't. This is possibly one of the most underrated sequels out there, an intelligently written psychological thriller that complements Hitchcock's original very well whilst expanding on the mythology with several surprise twists. Anthony Perkins returning to the role of Norman Bates is excellent, all gangly awkwardness and nervy side eye glances whilst at times…

This films bad reputation and terrible imdb score had put me off ever watching it but after recently rewatching the original I was curious to finally check it out. I can confirm it is probably one of the worst sequels to a classic movie I've ever seen. It makes little sense and is a complete mess but it's a fascinating mess and I have to say I couldn't look away mainly in disbelief at what I was seeing. The plot…

Rather unfairly sent straight to video after Kevin Bacon jumped ship. Whilst you do miss Bacon and the banter between Val & Earl this does largely manage to retain the tone and blend of action and humour of the original whilst evolving the graboid creatures. Perhaps not quite deserving of being a fancy Arrow video edition this is still an entertaining bit of B movie schlock but it probably doesn't have the rewatchability of the original.

    Paddington in Peru

    ★★★½

It is certainly a big step down from the sheer delight that was Paddington 2 and loses quite a bit of it's charm in setting the bulk of the action out of England. However there is just something about that little bear with Ben Whishaw's perfect vocal casting that can always make me smile and pull on my heartstrings. There is still more than enough fun and plenty of laughs (have to say I cracked up at the station names given to Paddington's tribe) to make this a journey worth taking.

They don't make them like this anymore. Reminded me of something like 'American Pie' and 'Something About Mary' and those adult comedies we used to get in the 90's . It was much better than I expected , whilst not laugh out loud funny it was consistently amusing and had heart. Jennifer Lawrence also continues to show how versatile and talented she is and was by far the best thing in this. She also looked damn hot throughout which certainly added to my enjoyment.

    Stepfather 2

    ★★★

The Stepfather is back and up to his old tricks again and looking remarkably well after being stabbed in the heart at the end of the first film. The sequel isn't quite as compelling with the plot being basically just a rehash of the original and again suffering from a very rushed conclusion. Terry O'Quinn is still great in the title role though and despite it's faults this is still rather good fun and certainly never boring.
