It's easy to see why people went crazy for this one back in 2011. After the god-awful borefest that was the 2009 reunion, Justin Lin must 've ingested two liters of NOS because here totally finds his footing. What a joke. You can feel Alvarez struggling to make a fun mean teen slasher out of this, but this is literally Walt Disney's Alien beamed from another dimension. At its best it has the old fun&dumb corporate energy of a Disneyland ride movie ala Haunted Mansion or Tower of terror. At its worst, the new Rogue One//Disney+ empty machinery vibes. Perfectly disposable but the idea of treating this saga as a childhood pop icon for 80s kids is soo stupid and out of place that i find it kinda cute.
