  Sinbad of the Seven Seas 1989

  Stumbled on this when I was trying to get to sleep at 2am. Well, I didn't get to sleep until 4am because this movie is completely bonkers. It's bizarre and over the top in the best way possible. I can't give it a very high score because obviously it has some serious flaws but I can't say I really cared a whole lot about them while I was watching it.

  I've been a Bava fan for a bunch of years now but for some reason never sought out this film. Huge mistake. This is probably the most fun you can have watching a Bava film. It's over the top crazy, stylish as hell, and even has some very solid action bits. Highly recommended.

  I wanted to like this more than I did. Campbell is a very talented director but for whatever reason the story and the characters in this film didn't click for me and I found myself bored. It's competently made and looks good, but something is missing. I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

  Altman can do no wrong in my eyes. This film's reputation isn't great in comparison to some of Altman's other masterpieces(McCabe & Ms. Miller, Nashville, The Long Goodbye), but I loved it. It has all the usual Altman tricks in a setting that really is made for them, Hollywood. The little bits of conversation and all the side characters make for a dense experience that I know I'll need to revisit a few times to fully absorb. That's Altman for you.
