Surprisingly for a movie of the 90's, it regularly depicts a certain old age. Indeed, several shots, the slowness of some scenes, etc "grew a bit old", and therefore slightly break the 4th wall.
That being said, the scenario is well-framed, the actors perform brilliantly and the morale remains comptemporary.

Lynch just passed away and having only watched The Elephant Man, I now feel obliged to complete all his classics.

It had been quite some time since I didn't get that much cringed by a movie. And surely, Lynch overexaggerated some scenes to ensure cringing EVERYONE. (If you don't, I'm sorry you tell that you ain't human).

This is quite a feel-good movie thanks to its warm colours, its soft music and the calm scenes about the tea ceremony. "Contemplation and serenity" is the general mood of this film and one of the main actor, Chang Han, perfectly embodies it thanks to his great performance.
However, some scenes are repetitive so depending on your expectations, it can be long to watch. I'd also withdraw one star for the the last third of the movie, which is surprisingly quite confusing, it completely deviates from its original plot and I found it deceiving.

Very American but there's an interesting message (not super profound but still) which would be worth a good 3/5. Some pictures literally froze my blood and gave me instant goosebumps; that makes it a 4/5.

PS: Can only be watched at the cinema. Otherwise no goosebumps!
