Some incredible scenes and stands up well even if some of it’s dated. Not really sure why/how Michael became the Don that he did which feels like a pretty big blind spot considering the story is essentially his origin story.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I genuinely enjoyed it but it’s not without its flaws, all of which seem to be accentuated during Defying Gravity. I used to watch this everyday after school when I was like 10. It’s an incredible on-the-ground depiction of war from a civilian’s point of view. But then Robbie runs away to fight the aliens (for literally no reason) and Dakota Fanning stops being witty and funny and just starts screaming and I start to realize that the reason I watched it everyday after school was because I never made it to the last 40 minutes before turning it off to eat supper.
