very tense and engaging for the most part, but i don’t really understand how michael jumps from wanting to be separate from the family business to being in all the way and having all this knowledge of how to run things. time jumps didn’t help. honestly i got pissed @ how poorly the women were (not) developed in the whole thing. i went in accepting that this was a ~man~ movie and that’s fine but the ending pissed me off too much

the first thing i did leaving the theater was look up who had written this movie because it sure as hell had to have been written by a man.
what exactly does this movie say about gender? about community? about the “human condition”? that it’s an endless cycle of brutality and we can still find some joy but only if we succumb and make ourselves complicit in that cycle of brutality in the end?
there is nothing subversive about this…
