    Incredible automobile hysteria! A trucker movie, basically. This has almost nothing to do with Bardot, as she's unfortunately relegated to a completely passive and unthinking role, and everything to do instead with the promise of the vehicle -- personal mobility, a vessel for the masculine performance of nonchalance, beautiful women waiting for their drivers' return, the crossroads and waypoints stocked with handsome rugged mechanics and nonchalant drivers with lofty protector's morals.

    Possibly one of the stranger and more compelling films I've seen in spite of itself. I know there's problems with British expats in Spain, but this is extreme -- they've infiltrated the police, the nobility, even the street urchins. Everyone communicates in various shades of sexual harassment and the lead munches on celery the way characters would normally smoke cigarettes, nonchalantly, while walking and talking, or just leaning against a wall.
