This movie made me feel seen and heard in so many ways I didn’t know I needed. It addresses the struggle of preteen (and teen) girls learning their place in the world as both the Virgin and the Whore. Knowing this movie was made by a woman really pulls at my heart because the struggle these young girls face is very real. If this movie made you feel uncomfortable then try to analyze why. Children learn by imitation, and this movie addresses society’s constant objectification of the female body, female youth, and the internalized understanding of the reality of the immortal beast that is misogyny.
