Better than it has any right to be given the quality of the first film, though this one does admittedly start to drag near its end. Also the fact that it was directed by a trans woman is a huge W.

Evil Dead Rise 2023
Little more than a half-assed, half-baked, Netflix-ified riff on the originals. Alyssa Sutherland feels like the one saving grace here, but her magnetic performance is criminally underutilized by the film. I actually think a huge problem with Evil Dead Rise is its unwillingness to centralize her as the main character— instead we get way too much of a focus on her completely unlikeable wet blanket of a family.
