Eerie, suspenseful, sexy (weird), sexy (not weird). Most notable highlights are ridiculously interesting lighting and cinematographic choices. I also hate horror movies. But this was a horror movie I enjoyed being unsettled by. "I am only an appetite" is a BANGER line.

After watching years later, this is just a fine Star Wars movie. The exposition is particularly heavy handed, and much of the narrative really does feel more focused on homage rather than substance. I will say, though, the character of Rey has really gotten a bad rap. Rey is a fun take on a new Star Wars protagonist, and while perhaps she does come into her skill a little suddenly, Daisy Ridley plays a very convincing, earnest upstart.

So, seen this a few times, but this was the first rewatch I did while on Letterboxd. I mean there’s no such thing as a perfect movie, but geez this one is close. Not only is it cinematically shot well, it’s also musically shot well. Using the classic James Bond sounds to accentuate various James bondsy actions throughout just so gratifying as a viewer. Daniel Craig IS James Bond and he absolutely nailed it in one.

1917 was a lot of walking but boy was that some of the most suspenseful walking have I ever seen. The main shine in this movie is the cinematography and then a close second the music. Even simple shots of the two soldiers walking and navigating the shelled battlefield are done in a way that invokes this sense of dread and even nihilism. Thoroughly impressed my Mr mendes.
