    Mickey 17

    ★★★★

Mickey 17 is chaotic, messy, and a total blast. Seeing it a second time only made me laugh harder. Robert Pattinson is solid—I’ll see him in anything he puts out now—and Bong Joon-ho’s touch makes the whole thing shine.

In a world drowning in recycled IP, I’ll take a bold, imperfect film like this any day—a reminder that good filmmakers are still out there. It’s a shame Warner Brothers will probably take the wrong lesson from this, but here’s hoping they gamble on more ambitious projects.

    Novocaine

    ★★★½

Novocaine is a blast. Jack Quaid is incredibly charming—a quirky, nerdy standout who’s having a great year between Companion and this. The cast might not be full of big names, but the dynamics still work. Nate and Roscoe bounce off each other well, but it’s Simon who steals the show. This film is a Shakespearean play masquerading as a story about the fall of a Roman Empire, applied to modern-day America, in the vein of a period piece. There’s dialogue I enjoy, but the shots are unremarkable, to be honest. That was the biggest surprise of the movie. It made me feel a lot of things—not all of them good. In fact, not most of them. I thoroughly enjoyed Adam Driver's performance; truly, this movie made me laugh out loud…

    The Ritual

    ★★★★½

The Ritual is horror done right. The best monster horror keeps you in fear before you ever see the creature, and this film nails that. Every glimpse, every movement keeps you questioning—What is it? How does it move? How do you survive it? The setup is already brutal: Luke watches his friend die, frozen in fear. That guilt festers as he and his friends take a memorial hike that spirals into absolute nightmare fuel. They’re being hunted, and what’s worse?…
