Coralie Fargeat's follow up to Revenge (2017) is an absolutely wild watch. Revenge was already an ultra violent, adrenaline pumping, insane watch but The Substance somehow completely surpasses it in almost every way. The violence? Let's just say there's a scene that potentially surpassed Evil Dead (2013) in terms of gallons of blood used in a single scene. Adrenaline pumping? Fargeat and her editing team (along with a overwhelming score courtesy of Raffertie) ramp the pace and energy of this…

Conceptually this could've been a very fun and campy movie. But it's so uncharming in practically every way. The acting is bad. The writing is bad. The editing is bad. The sound design is bad. Probably some of the worst robots designs I've ever seen in a movie or TV show. I hated every robot in this movie. And it's randomly racist at times which for a sci-fi fantasy why is that type of bullshit even present? This isn't one of those, it's so bad, it's good kind of movies. Not everything can be a lost, unappreciated gem. Sometimes trash is just forgotten.

Definitely can see all the areas in which Tarantino drew inspiration from with Kill Bill, Vol 1. The classic tale of bloody vengeance by way of a femme fatale. So if you're familiar with Kill Bill with its looks and sounds (especially it's score), you're going to feel right at home here. Especially when it comes to the violence, this movie does not hold back on the geysers of blood coming from every sword slash; it is undeniably an incredibly…

Finally. Someone was able to pull it off. When I heard Fede Alvarez was going to be directing, I instantly felt like he was going to be the one who NAILED making a great entry for the Alien franchise after so many marginally good to plain bad ones. Fede understood the assignment. He knew what elements from both Alien and Aliens worked and he put together a really good story with some really good characters that looked and sounded amazing.…

Barbie was one of those IPs you heard getting thrown around in Hollywood that you'd roll your eyes at hearing. Who really would want that? But as soon as I heard that Greta Gerwig was co-writing and directing it, I was suddenly invested; and when Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were cast as Barbie and Ken, I was 100% on board. Normally getting psyched out a project that early is going to be met with some disappointment where the end…
