I identify with Jesse Plemons in this movie because he was so bored at one point that he picks up a barbecue sauce and recites the label

Ripe with ideology and political questions that are ready to be uncovered by more perceptive minds than myself.

I recommend for anyone who wants to demystify the third reich through cinema. One scene has Willhelm II listening to a democratic socialist model dressed as Jesus. The scene paints this poor socialist in a sympathetic light in comparison to the self-interested aristocratic Willhelm II.

The theme of zealous youth vs. elder statesman is a through-line. Machiavellian back channels prefer to install…

too modest and meandering in comparison to the other two Lubitsch epics I’ve seen from this time period (The Loves of Pharaoh, and Madame DuBarry).

the fact that there was no George Boleyn character was a missed opportunity for shock appeal. perhaps the omission was an intentional compromise to please producers.

a drama with a steady hand, without much to write home about.

I’m surprised Jud Süß isn’t talked about more than Triumph of the Will. Not only is it a more controversial film, it was viewed ~20 million times in German theatres (more than saw Avatar). It also won a top award at the Venice Film Festival. Antonioni, a young critic at the time, said it was “a film of harmony and complete unity”, and that “if this is propaganda, then we welcome propaganda”.

This is so high rated because it’s the only live-action film that weebs have accidentally watched.

So bad I had to turn it off. Contemptibly bad.

If you rated this 5 stars your room probably smells crazy. Stick to anime. This is not some deep moralist odyssey. It is sexual overtones and absurdism repeated ad nauseam to no avail.

Any American Pie, slap-stick “UNRATED” movie matches this in depth. At least those films aren’t as insufferable as this one because they aren’t 4 hours long.
