had to fight falling asleep throughout the whole thing, im not even exaggerating. how can you make a cultist post-apocalyptic creature? horror this boring. it's less than 80 minutes and still felt like the biggest waste of my time.

    Pandemonium

i though the premise had a lot of potential, and as a fan of non-traditional religious horror i was excited for it, but it extremely disapointingly fell through in its execution. more exposition than story, more drama than horror, and our "main characters" and the entire initial set up get abandoned for the majority of the film. if it had been presented or advertised as an anthology that would be one thing, but it really wasn't for all i have/had seen, and the individual stories were only barely stitched together. bizzarre choices left an right.

This movie is suffocating, claustrophobic even, and terrifying in its not-so-subtle subtleness that steadily builds up, until it is incredibly hard to bear. In the end, you are left with a feeling perhaps only a certain portion of viewers will fully understand. If you do, if you relate, if you know, it hits you to the core. Cuts right through your chest, you might say (sorry).

I'm not sure I've ever encountered a piece of media that relays this fittingly…

    The Substance

    ★★★★

"The Substance" is really fucking good and i hated every second of it.

this movie touches on addiction, subastance- and self-abuse, disability, aging, EDs, body dismorphia and self-image in such a poignant way, i think it's safe to say it will stay with you for a while, for one reason or another. it delivered so much more than i expected. im not sure i can say i /liked/ it, but it certainly had and left an impact.

(there is a lot to unpack here and i would love to examine it further and write more on it later. so stay tuned, maybe.)
