Aggravating. Brandy is a great actress, but the film is annoying. No gore but lots of shit, farts, phlegm. Half the film is just Brandy cleaning up her racist stepmother-in-law's shit (+ then walking around in the same clothes covered in shit all day long). Half the script are quips from daughter of the confederacy, like yes she's so annoying, but what is this framing?

Thought i would love-hate this, but it was mostly middling. Seems to always miss the meat of the shot, which I guess is why it's acclaimed. A lot of crazy shit keeps happening, but it's somehow framed in the most boring way possible (sooo many filler shots, very bland color palette besides like two scenes, generic camerawork, shot over the shoulder through the doorways always at an inconvenient angle but never an interesting one, etc). It feels like a long fucked up joke: being treated like a dog by a man is still better than dealing with a woman.
I mean, the woman here was abusive too- she (and similar characters in doomed love stories) is a caricature of the devoted crazy girlfriend (she's not actually devoted). Here she represents a barrier to her boyfriend's growth, both wrt sexuality and masculinity.
