I had no sympathy for the character of Rita (Saldana) with or without her immoral actions. It went from "I'm being forced and threatened to do this" to "I'm loving this, this gangster is my best friend" too quickly. Also, the songs don't add anything to the narrative, they feel more like displays of second-rate choreography. Even removing the songs wouldn't save this film, but apparently the Academy will.

20th Century Boys: Beginning of the End 2008
In regards to it being an adaptation, it works but it removes a lot of the background characters and side stories that add to the heart of the narrative. Not every scene needs to be about Friend. Removing most of Otcho's plot in Thailand annoyed me and no spoon bending? I think this acts as a fan film, made by fans for fans and doesn't replace the manga but seeing the highlights brought to life is great.
