Everyone always quotes the press scene but really every single line in this movie gold.

"I fought the war for your sort!"
    "Bet you're sorry you won."

    "He went down the uh-"
    "Oh down the uh-?"
    "Yeh, down the uh."
"Oh well give him a couple of minutes then."

    "Congratulate me, boys! I'm engaged!"
    [HARD CUT]
"And to think me own grandson would let them put me behind bars!"

"Ah it may be a joke but it's…

Anya Taylor-Joy playing chess for 7 hours would be a cause for celebration, no matter the quality of the picture. That is to say, the appearance of Anya Taylor-Joy in anything is a cause for celebration.

It is with Joy and joy then, that The Queen's Gambit is a highly entertaining, well-shot masterwork of television. Our protagonist is Beth Harmon, a child prodigy who cares about only two things only: the art of chess and the taking of tranquilizers, and…

My first pick from this list ended up being highly enjoyable.

    Mirror Universe Boimler?

Some plotting messiness means this doesn't quite reach the heights it's aiming for, but the character work is top notch and Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher nail their roles as the conniving incel and oppressed partner respectively. The whole cast is really great and really funny.

But also the comedy does nothing to temper just how *bleak* the world of Companion is. One line uttered by one of the Empathix technicians towards the end of the film chilled me to the bone.

    Sequel please.

    The girlboss-ification of Hitler.

It's around this time that people trot out the same tired Onion article: "Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'".

And here's the thing, I like fun! I like the JJ Abrams 2009 reboot. I like the episode of Strange New Worlds where everyone is stuck in a musical. Star Trek: Section 31 is neither fun nor watchable. It is an ideologically bankrupt, visually abhorrent dime-store version of Suicide Squad, itself a staid dollar-store…

    Doctor Who: The Web Planet

Ambitious, overly long, messy, and a waste of an interesting premise. Though it does contain what might be the funniest alien massacre ever put to celluloid.
