Gasp-inducing party scene and helicopter shots of the French countryside, and I gotta look into VistaVision bc everything looks ravishing (damn, that fireworks scene). The attempts at rat-tat-tat witty dialogue get kinda tiring and the story actually chugs along quite creakily, but this films' locations and costume party colours, besides the general otherworldliness of Grant and Kelly, ensure it's pretty undeniable.

Chaos: The Manson Murders 2025
Disappointing. This was a hot book but the film fails to tie up its threads and spends too much time on silly graphics and the gruesome details adored by rubberneckers (no I don't need a stab wound map for each victim). Meanwhile O'Neill himself doesn't come across well and the movie somehow makes him sound like a crank (he isn't). Some stunning archive footage and the interviews with Beausoleil redeem it somewhat

Killer's Kiss 1955
An early photo montage tells us a tonne about the lead character, and that Kubrick is already far beyond the amateurish Fear and Desire. There is some good lighting and music, the boxing match and a ballet scene look great, and the final showdown is surprisingly tense and fun. The nighttime scenes shot on the streets of New York have an incredible vibe. It's short and cheap and about as deep as a puddle but very likeable, stylish and scrappy
