Is this the Substance for incels? Nah but foreal, i feel like if there’s a theme in 2024, it’s envy. The Substance, A Real Pain, Anora and this movie. I really liked the approach this movie took to handling the theme of trying to reimagine yourself and failing. It’s not saying “just be yourself,” but it’s like… sometimes you are weird and different and people might treat you different but you also have control of how you react to that.

Think it should have been told chronologically or something cause I feel like characters weren’t fleshed out well. Get it? “Fleshed out?”…. But yea, I didn’t really care about anyone but Mickey. I think they could have been so much more focused thematically. Just turned into Okja at the end. Robert Pattinson is unreal in this though. So fucking good.

Small nitpicks I have aren’t worth giving this anything less than 5 stars. It’s an amazing Part 1. Just like for Dune, I don’t really care that it wasn’t a complete story or it ended “abruptly.” I really don’t think it did end abruptly, the end felt kinda drawn out and like it needed to end. I love that the movie took its time to tell this story and that it will be a two parter with the second part…
