Perfect marriage of convenience between new wave - male gaze - artsy films and ridiculous commercial genre cinema.

Unfortunately, when buying tickets, I had not realised that the pleasure of seeing young, slim and shining Leslie in the darkness of a cinema theatre goes hand in hand with necessity to withstand the ostentatious Japanese red army part.

(It was interesting to observe the audience which was watching it for the first time, though. The lecturer before the screening didn't give much explanation why the movie was filmed this way, so no wonder the perception was quite fun.)

Quite surprised by comparisons with The Wailing - this is not an existential drama-horror reflexing on a nature of evil, but rather a mystic procedural in a world where all the supernatural stuff is real. Given the topic ("your grandpa exhumations might go wrong" and "why did they bury him there?") the whole movie I was thinking of Mr. Vampire (1985). Just not as funny.

(The second surprise is, of course, the fact that everyone has theis ears still attached to heads)

I knew who the killer was right after the elevator scene. Too many gialli seen before, I guess.
Overall stylish but extremely uninventive - and besides usual references to Hitchcock and italian stuff I definitely can see Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931).
