The Red Shoes 1948
actually OBSESSED with this. The whole way through I was blown away, couldn’t get over how good it looked. the colours (!), the costumes (!!), the set design, the choreographies, the score!!! Everything about this was just perfect. Need to watch it again and again and shoot it into my veins ngl

I can't even begin to describe the incredible transformation of Marion Cotillard in this movie: her character is crude, rough, raw, coarse, even her voice, even her very movements and posture manifest her uncouth and somewhat vulgar background and attitude. She's exquisitely detestable. What Cotillard delivers here is a truly remarkable performance which hooked me from the very beginning, despite my utter disdain for the persona.
Some very good singing is also protagonist in this movie, definitely worth a listen…

I love love loveeee it when the craft behind the making of a film is so palpable. Such a tightly written, grippingly paced, and beautifully shot film. Especially loved the scenes that contrasted the mundane modernity of it all within the context of such an ancient institution.
