    Keeps the set pieces from the trailer but otherwise is incredibly different, in look & feel, timeframe, tone, etc. Does a decent job invoking that 90s teen slasher feel, and I enjoyed the trashy small-Massachusetts-town vibes. "Go back to Methuen!"

    Roth is generally a disappointment, in his filmic output and his offscreen persona, but this is operating on a level that he can handle, and I'm fine with that.

    I think the context surrounding this documentary is more interesting than the doc itself, but there is something here, albeit very loose in nature. What initially plays as mere eccentricity is more and more revealed to be religiosity, the abdication of concern and understanding within the framework of "god is in control." The sinister aspect, however subtle, is the understanding that great resentment, anger, or worse looms if you dare to try to disabuse them of these notions, dare to try to make them engage with the actual complexity of reality.

    God what a piece of shit. There was vanishingly little I enjoyed about this utter slog. Ezra Miller is just an annoying actor, even divorced from his offscreen baggage. The plot leans into tropes (fridging, multiverse, futility of time travel) in uninteresting ways, never having anything new to say about them. And it's just such a flat, visually uninteresting movie.
