Spectacular to see, and way less fun to watch. The paintings and movement and music make for an onscreen buffet feast, but the treatment of the story is a long, flat cringe - a shirtless cabbage party.

A bit silly of me not to have watched Yash Chopra with some intentionality before. What with all the fabric, the movie stars, even more pregnancies...
Chopra and Sirk on the big screen together is the stovetop on full blast and all the pots are furiously boiling over.

This hurt so much - from its own pain but also from how vastly creative and intelligent it was. It has some of the most innovative storytelling and Ben Hania's form is spectacular...and from somewhere else where I'm dying to explore.
