Dussel, the late, great liberation philosopher, stated philosophy was at its most profound when directed from the ontological periphery towards the ontological center. Art functions similarly in this modern day. At least, this film makes that claim. Caravaggio states that art is opposed to life... you cannot engage with the aesthetic of something and also its existence.
