I like that Questlove is such a big music nerd and his fascination with what makes a song work and what makes music interesting shines through and makes this a fun watch. I just wish he would ditch the lurid, TMZ-style focus on Sly’s personal life and drug issues and sleaze. I’m not saying he shouldn’t mention that stuff at all, but the choice to make that the majority of the doc was a drag.

- "Our entire life is a punishment."
- There's a general lack of world building where Bong is neglecting many of the most interesting threads. You don't get much of a sense of this dystopian society but rather a real tight focus on Mickey's individual psychology.

Ideologically empty and almost a-historical. Nolan is interested in the affect of velocity with a vague sense of humanism but refuses to engage in the muddy stuff of actually contemplating the subject matter at hand. You can't deny the technical chops and the score but it is all in the service of a pretty shallow project. A missed opportunity.
