I've wanted to watch this one for a long time, but never got around to it until tonight. Goddamn.
The writing, the cinematography, the editing, the acting, the pacing, the casting... all amazing.
I understand why Get Out made people go, "Oh, Jordan Peele knows what the fuck he's doing." Yep, he does.
One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
Okay look, there were definitely moments where I laughed out loud; bordering on scream-laughing even. But like... when it was over, I didn't understand what Greener Grass was trying to say... or be...
It made me kinda start to question my media literacy. But the folks I watched it with are also conversant in film and nobody really got it.
I'm not saying it's bad, it just has the narrative structure of a story a six-year-old would make up on the fly.
Dark and Stormy Night distills the comic essence of old dark house movies every bit as effectively as The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra does the sci-fi/horror B movies of the 50s.
I'll always have an extra special place in my heart for Lost Skeleton, but this is also a heck of a good time. It may even be a bit more accessible, as it leans less on the audience's knowledge of genre tropes while still rewarding such knowledge.
Pairs well with an enormous bowl of popcorn.
