All the wrong tonal and screenplay decisions. Editing, effects and scene pacing are so laughably inconsistent that it nearly morphs into frustration, and you then realize that the enjoyability of this movie is a fluke of creativity.
Once the incredibly compelling emergence of horror elements begin, you simultaneously begin asking yourself "Now how could the movie really botch this aspect?"
Somehow, the movie hears you, and begins a cockup cascade that doesn't result in the movie's own death, but rather in it's horrific maiming.
It's not bad, worth a watch even, but what a true waste.
Predictable, nonetheless fascinating drama about a fictional pope election mirroring the concerns of today's socio-political tensions.
While it certainly is a wishful liberal-tinged "this is how REAL Christians should be!" narrative, it doesn't detract from the beauty and complexity of the shot composition, that of which remembers how the uniqueness of film can enhance themes and storytelling.
Fiennes is fantastic, but you knew that already.
The "twist" is more of a gimmick, but it doesn't negate the palpable tension.
