The ending is immense - however Cox’s attack on modern-day “Manifest Destiny” still feels a little forced considering how 90% of the film is biographical.

Surprisingly tranquil, I slept deeply after watching this. I’m sure the blame lies at least partly in Neil Young’s music, soothingly exploring a nomadic purgatory within a lost, alternate America.

I watched Easy Rider the evening Garth Hudson, the last surviving member of legendary folk outfit The Band, was laid to rest. The Band always stood out to me for their ability to embrace a traditional sound of early-century Americana in a time of extreme psychedelia and contrarianism, I think along with Dylan they were able to remind America’s counterculture youth that not all of their heritage was worth bulldozing.
