Whenever I watch a pre John Wick action film I’m reminded that not every action sequence needs to look like it was shot in one take (not saying I’m not a fan of the technique, but there’s just a lack of variety these days). I don’t think there are many movies I can say this about and be 1000% genuine, but there’s not a single thing I’d change about this movie. I didn’t have that bad of a time watching this but there’s no denying that it’s a perfect example of everything you wanna avoid when writing a screenplay.
Everything feels so manufactured. The action scenes are fine but it always feels like *insert badass moment here* or *insert heartfelt moment here*. Nothing ever feels earned and you don’t give a rats ass about a single one of these characters.
I’m not gonna say it’s one of the worst movies of all time, but of the year? Without question.
All the performances are great, but the script did absolutely nothing to invest me personally outside of the great first act.
