I have fond memories of watching this in the early 80s, and it's perfect for a long flight. Not everything makes sense, but you have to love the silver ball and the period Euro horror soundtrack.

The first half was promising: cold, claustrophobic, post-apocalyptic setting, dominated by a frigid blue-grey palette. (See trailer.) The girls' relationships and horrific predicament were efficiently sketched out.
But despite some stellar visual and sound design, eventually the movie succumbed to the kind of hackneyed thriller mechanics that I have little patience for. The Big Reveal was also botched in several ways. Definitely worth seeing for the first half, but the rest was a severe disappointment.

Bong's latest is entertaining enough. He seems content to play with familiar space opera tropes, instead of building the striking constructions in films like Parasite or Snowpiercer. Nice creature design, and the sociopolitical commentary hits a bit close to home in our current environment. It rambles a bit with all the thriller mechanics, but is still reasonably fun.
I'm also thankful not to hear the Toni Basil song all through the movie; it's just in the trailer for some reason. Who thought that was a good idea?
