Guadagnino moved me enormously as per usual. Visually; this film is so impressive, the colour grading creates this nostalgic, comfortable effect despite the content being depicted. The idea of cannibalism merely as a vehicle to push these characters to love, explore and lose was perfectly executed. The pacing was slow but still holds your attention, and in moments of tension Guadagnino punches in on the characters eye line, giving weight to the moment. Domee Shi’s coming of age feature is far more heartwarming than I could have anticipated. The writing was surprisingly raw for a “family” movie and I was moved especially by the depiction of the female friendships.
