I thought Susan and Edward's date would reverse her ideology that they live in the real world unlike the manuscript devoured. Susan's 'real' ending however is not restorative or poetic, just as Edward (in the story) falls on his gun and accidentally kills himself, Susan's story is just as bleak if not more that a father who sough revenge for his family.
