  What a strange movie. Not the plot, it’s basically run of the mill apocalypse stuff. But the tone, the music choices (strangest opening song choice I’ve probably ever seen in a movie), idk, it’s just a weird experience. Feels kinda like a bad version of a Jordan Peele movie, or an algorithmically generated version of Knock at the Cabin (2023).

  It’s hard to believe I’d never seen this movie because I love Michael Mann and Heat is one of my all time favorite films. This movie has all the staples of Mann films, the synthesizer soundtrack, the atmospheric settings, the very human characters. 

  It feels like this film invented the modern crime genre. It seems like it had an influence on so many shows and movies. It reminds me a lot of “Drive” in particular. But you can find callbacks…
