Some excellent images and an interesting theme aren't enough to carry the film along its 18 minute run time. Overly busy moments kept me from contemplation and sinking into a slower pace while a repetition of images bored rather than reinforced. Elverum's confessional/diaristic Mount Eeries adds an even further layer of self to an already over-burdened text. Look, I get it, short films are often this kind of dreamy floaty stuff... but this one could've been better with more focus and cut in half.

End of Watch 2012
Terrible writing and some of the absolute dumbest villains I've ever seen in any film ever, but Michael Pena brings such heart to the film that it kind of won me over.

Everything Everywhere All at Once 2022
A twenty-minute film with the equivalent of a two-hour dream sequence inserted in the middle, not a single moment of which matters at all to the outcome of what is ultimately a simple story about a woman (beautifully played by Michelle Yeoh) coming to understand her role in the unhappiness and decay of her family and family business.
Shout out to Jamie Lee Curtis in a hilarious performance.
This movie was asinine though. Not funny. Stupid. Pointless.

Longlegs 2024
What I loved about Longlegs:
1) The introductory scene of Monroe's Harker when they are going door to door. At that moment I was excited for what was forthcoming. Would this be a Se7en-esque horror thriller?! OMG. Yes. So pumped.
2) Police-procedural horror with methodical set-piece walkthroughs.
3) Actual thunderstorms and excellent cinematography of excellently chosen locations.
4) Deliberate and steady pacing. What I thought was okay about Longlegs:
1) Nicholas Cage. Technically, this should go in the first bucket.…Translated from by
