Why did no one tell me about The Country Bears? How is this not widely beloved? It's honestly incredible. You've got Christopher Walken as a very silly villain. Impressive Henson-made animatronics with just enough CGI slapped on them to make them super uncanny. Fully choreographed musical numbers. INCREDIBLE early 2000s fashion. And it was actually funny! I just don't really understand how anyone could hate this.

I wasn't really feeling it the first time I saw it last year, but in a way where I was like, I'll probably like this way more on a rewatch. And I was right!

Seeing it in a theatre definitely helped and made me appreciate the visuals and soundscapes way more. It was also fun to go back to after rewatching a bunch of other Lynch films! I had a great time, even if I was sitting next to some dork with a papier mache baby.

"Well damn, Cooper, that really narrows it down. You're talking about half the high school girls in America!"

This is obviously a brutal and harrowing movie, but it was the casual, everyday violence that really got to me on a rewatch. Sheryl Lee is a gorgeous woman in her mid-20s at the time, so it's hard to remember that Laura is a child.…
