The Royal Tenenbaums 2001
This quite simply had to be watched as an ode to the great Gene Hackman.
His performance here is pure gold and probably my favourite amongst any of Anderson’s characters (tied with Jason Schwartzman in Rushmore). Particularly his scenes with the two kids are equally heartwarming as they are hilarious.

After In Bruges, my expectations could not been any higher going into this one. I am pleased to say it did not disappoint. McDonough is a writer at the absolute peak of his powers.
It was as a hilarious as it was heartbreaking, none depicting this as strongly as Barry Keoghan’s character who despite being the most comedic, ultimately had the most tragic end.
Also, a film that describes the Irish Civil War as a “bad do” gets the nod of approval from me.
