    Parthenope

    ★★★½

Just like its titular character, Parthenope is gorgeous and lush (often like a perfume advertisement) and in constant search for purpose (not quite successful).
Sorrentino's style is not everyone's cup of tea. And yes, this film is one of those pretty pseudo-intellectual films that often lack depth and/or logic, but it kept me glued to the screen throughout its long runtime.

    A Complete Unknown

    ★★★½

The key to like this movie is to enjoy the music. Of course, these songs are all pre-existing and well known only performed by actors, which are all great (kudos for Chalamet, Norton, Barbaro and Boyd Holbrook), but other than that there is nothing much else.

full of horror movie cliches but still good. I rolled my eyes only once (at the end which was kinda schmaltzy), and that says something. definitely a horror movie to recommend.

    Whiplash

    ★★★★½

the plot sounds so simple - an ambitious drummer Andrew, a loner student at the prestigious music conservatory, joins the jazz band conducted by strict and cruel perfectionist Fletcher. Whiplash is the movie about ambition, addictive pursuit of greatness and perfection, madness and revenge. it is electrifying, tense, thrilling and emotionally very powerful, just like jazz itself. it's enhanced by the wonderful performances from Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons. both actor are incredible in their roles and they play each other off so well. Teller makes you feel every drop of Andrew's sweat and Simmons makes your blood boil.
