    Prime Cut

    ★★

Prime Cut sure has a great cast. Gene Hackman is the villain, “Mary Ann” — a Kansas City meat magnate, sex trafficker, and general crime lord. His brother and co-conspirator, “Weenie,” is played by Gregory Walcott (yes, the guy who starred in Plan 9 from Outer Space). Their criminal pursuits include grooming orphans to become sex slaves. Sissy Spacek plays one of the orphans, Poppy, in her first credited role.

The Last Days of Gene Hackman: ABC News Special

    ★★½

This short documentary about Gene Hackman’s death (and his life in general) is available on Disney Plus. Hackman was one of my favorite actors, so I was curious to hear more about the circumstances of his passing.

Here are four things that I most certainly did not think:

“This movie needs more jump scares.”
“I wish the characters barfed more.”
    “Where are the boobs?”
“I wish the Nosferatu had a briefly glimpsed prosthetic wang.”

But guess who did think all four of those things?…

At some point in my adult life, I decided that I don’t like Disney anymore. I’m not even sure when it happened. I think gradually, Disney transitioned from being a source of joy and wonder to me, to just another big corporation that kept shoving its product in my face. It doesn’t help that I never became a father and couldn’t share these movies with my nonexistent kids.

But perhaps I’ve been wrong about Disney. I really enjoyed rewatching Snow…
