Surprisingly unsurprising. Was expecting a much more intricate mystery. Still solid. Beautifully shot.

I Saw the Devil 2010
Thoroughly uncomfortable, for all the reasons you think you want. The film's at it's best when it lets the violence speak for itself, plainly, but it too often undercuts itself with melodramatic, over-choreographed fight scenes, which I'd argue contradict the film's whole message. The plot has some good twists, but they rarely compound in a satisfying way, which is a pretty sore thumb in a serial killer hunt. Not horrible overall, but it could've done a lot better, especially with how interesting the first act is.

Longlegs 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
While all the occult stuff was kept consistently mysterious throughout, the characters themselves weren't. It was pretty obvious after the first ~20 minutes who was gonna die, purely by the fact that the film contains almost no red herrings. We're given no time, or frankly, reason to attach ourselves to most of the cast, as they're marked for death the second they say something that even vaguely relates to the case. It could definitely be argued the film wasn't looking to fool us but... I kinda wish it was.

Prometheus 2012
Plays with some interesting concepts, and I like the idea of a lore-focused prequel in a series not known for its intricacies. However, the script is just too uneven, bouncing between body horror, religious philosophy and ham-fisted worldbuilding, with nothing in between but diet dialogue between an enormous ensemble of unlikable, underwritten characters. There are definitively some cool moments, the production design and body horror are great, but the entire film just feels like it's hesitant to embrace the abstraction it claims to be exploring. Should've been weirder.
