Civil War 2024
I'm glad I missed the (from the sound of it, in bad taste) marketing for this because I went in without any preconceptions whatsoever. I actually thought its deliberate vagueness added to the experience, and while I admit that a(n even) better film could have been braver in its political messaging, the horror truly hits home, on all sides. And what a choice to tell it from a journalistic perspective.

Rewatch because you just gotta love this kitsch-fest from a bygone era (which is, somehow, only two years old). While its naïve neoliberal fantasy world can be hard to stomach at times I am honestly? Somehow still utterly charmed by it. Perfect cast and while it kind of feels like some lines carried over awkwardly from the book I think the changes they made for the film all work well. This remains a perfect, guilty little piece of escapism.
