Watching this I was reminded of Scorsese. The kinetic camera closing in on the characters, the voice-overs and a troubled male with an unhealthy obsession over a woman who he tries to control (Taxi Driver and Raging Bull) are some examples. According to Scorsese himself, the movie also influenced his movies like The Departed and Shutter Island.
