Throne of Blood 1957
Class film this. Kurosawa adapts Macbeth within a samurai setting in an intelligent manner. Superb direction, great cinematography and Mifune was fantastic as usual. Ending scene was incredible.

The French Connection 1971
Camera work in this film was expertly done. The car chase scene was one of the most masterful sequences ever shot in cinema history.

“Sometimes to love someone, you gotta be a stranger.”
Yeah, this was an immaculate experience. Villeneuve builds on the foundation and themes of the first film in a fascinating way. An obvious highlight was the cinematography, every frame is breathtaking due to excellent use of color grading and lighting. One of most visually beautiful films ever made. It updates the dystopian setting of its predecessor and gives it more vibrancy. Zimmer’s score was incredible as usual. It’s got an all…

Citizen Kane 1941
I’ll be real honest this was pretty disappointing. I went into this expecting a sheer masterpiece given the stellar reputation this has, however it was severely underwhelming. Sure, this did pioneer a new form of filmmaking and was groundbreaking back in the day, but it wasn’t anything special entertainment wise. The story isn’t engaging whatsoever, and I ultimately couldn’t care less about any of the characters. Some of the scenes really were a fucking snoozefest. Great editing & cinematography but that’s pretty much it. Will I rewatch this to give it another shot? Probably not as I really don’t want to sit through this again.
