    Interesting, and doesn’t over stay its welcome, which probably helps my score a bit. 

    It builds quite a nice atmosphere, the three main performances are a very strong anchor for the slightly odd mixture around them. But it doesn’t really do enough with any of it to go from interesting and good to incredible. 

    In fact, the last few minutes make it a little less interesting. Although I did quite like the final shot.

    Main thing is it makes me interested in following Ariane Labed, Mia Tharia and Pascale Kann’s career.

    Pretty good. I understand some of the white saviour complaints, but I think they’re a little reductive.

    The title to me is actually twofold. Obviously, he’s a preacher there to convert people to Christianity. But by the end of the film, the preacher has also taken on many of the traditions of the Māori people. To me it’s more about the blending of cultures. 

    Now there’s definitely some problems with the way the story is told, and the movie itself…
