  cinematography is incredible and it’s stylish as fuck, and those are probably the film’s only redeeming qualities. baffling how this got made given how much it sexualizes a preteen and it’s almost made worse how often they try to make it cute or funny.

  idk… it’s a pretty unique time capsule, but of a time and a place and an experience that i found pretty emotionally draining. not a very enjoyable watch. stopped about 30 min in after a director started berating a woman to get on with a blowjob scene she didn’t want to do with him watching before he finally kicked her off set.

  Still holds up — honestly, better than I remembered. To me, this is Wes Anderson at his best. Just enough composition / art direction / quirk, but not too much. Great writing / dialogue, solid acting, beautiful cinematography, one of the best soundtracks ever... it's the total package. Last 15-20 minutes loose steam for me, but still one of my all-time favorites.
