    Dead By Dawn 2016 Film # 1

The festival this year opened with an absolute cracker, a film that mixes two of my favourite things, horror and punk rock, to great effect. Jeremy Saulnier's follow up to Blue Ruin is violent, chaotic and claustrophobic, it also has a terrific energy running through it and surprising amount of blackly comic laughs that come just at the right times and don't distract from the horror.
The film follows a young, idealistic hardcore…

    A post apocalyptic film (3/2).
    Film from a country / Australia (10/6).

A couple played by Martin Freeman and Susie Porter are floating down the river on a barge with their infant daughter. We’re in the midst of some sort of zombie apocalypse but the actual details are sparse. Running short of supplies, they spot a capsized boat, Andy (Freeman) decides to investigate to see if there’s any food, when he returns with a…

Really wasn’t sure to expect with this one, went in cold without reading any reviews and to be honest, because of who the writer/director is, I was half expecting some mid act twist into more horror based territory which didn’t come.
Overall I did enjoy, it did take me a while to get invested in the characters but the twists in the story kept it interesting and there’s some top performances from the likes of Jeff Bridges, Lewis Pullman and in what was one of her first film roles Cynthia Erivo.

Bleak, brutal and heart wrenching, this is the best thing I’ve seen in a long time. Netflix can be a bit hit or miss with their original stuff but they have knocked it out of the park here and  I’m glad they’re giving guys like Peter Berg and Mark L. Smith a platform and a freedom to bring their vision to life. It’s also great to see Taylor Kitsch in another lead roll, he’s an actor that always elevates anything…

This was absolutely epic, a lot better than I was expecting it to be, I was all set to give it 4 and a half stars then I thought, what could it have actually done any better? The answer I came to was nothing, from the first scene to the last this is a white knuckle ride full of tension and suspense, there were a few scenes where I was actually holding my breath.
Emily Blunt stars as Kate Macer,…

I know I'm in the minority rating this film so high but I couldn't ask for anymore from an Everest disaster movie, from the spectacular cinematography, the great performances from the ensemble cast, the well defined characters and an intelligent script, this is really a true spectacle of a movie.
An absolutely brutal film about the needless loss of human life when man doesn't show nature enough respect. This film had me a wreck by the the end of it,…
