Luca Guadagnino is one of my favorite directors. No matter what timeline or themes he presents his films, he invites you in like you’re part of his masterpiece. It’s like a little vacation.
Unfortunately, I would not say that about this film. Unless you know every basic information about William Burroughs, you will never understand the concept and symbolism this film has to offer. You’ll be stuck in “what the fuck” mode the entire story.

The elements to this films were immaculate. I feel like I was watching an old film with its dark and hazy cinematography. I applaud the screenwriting, frightening soundtrack and set design (especially the castle). And the best part of Skarsgard’s Count Olaf was his voice….unfortunately, that’s it.
